Reebok is a US industrial company specializing in the production of shoes and sporting goods. Founded in 1895, originally with the name of Mercury Sports, and was renamed Reebok in 1958. It takes its name from the Afrikaans-Dutch diction of rhebok, a species of African antelope. Company founders Joe and Jeff Foster found the name "Reebok" in a dictionary won in a competition by Joe Foster when he was a boy; the dictionary was in a South African edition, hence the spelling of the name.
